Off-exchange data

Dark Pool Data for Retail Traders

Institutions execute their largest trades off-exchange, away from the public order book. Robinflow surfaces those prints in real time and turns them into price levels you can actually trade around.

What is a dark pool?

Dark pools are private trading venues where institutions buy and sell large blocks of stock without displaying their orders to the public market. The purpose is discretion: a fund moving millions of shares through the open order book would move the price against itself before finishing. A large share of U.S. equity volume trades off-exchange this way, which means the public tape alone shows you only part of what institutions are doing.

For the full background on how these venues work and how the prints reach the public tape, read Dark pool trading, explained.

These trades are not invisible, though. Off-exchange executions must be reported through FINRA’s trade reporting facilities, so the prints become public shortly after they happen. The catch is that the raw reporting feed is noisy and hard to interpret: no context, no aggregation, no sense of which prints matter. That interpretation layer is what Robinflow provides.

Dark pool prints, live

The dark pool feed is a real-time scanner over FINRA-reported prints: block size, notional value, price relative to the market, and running totals for the session. Outsized prints and clusters of institutional activity are highlighted as they happen, with quick filtering by ticker, size, and time. When a name suddenly prints hundreds of millions off-exchange, you see it within moments, not in tomorrow’s recap, and you can check the options flow on the same ticker for confirmation.

Levels: where institutions actually transacted

Individual prints are interesting; accumulated levels are actionable. Robinflow aggregates dark pool volume at each price to reveal where institutions have concentrated their activity, then overlays those levels on the price chart as support and resistance. Price approaching a level where hundreds of millions of dollars changed hands tends to behave differently, and knowing those levels ahead of time is the practical edge dark pool data offers.

Every level view includes sentiment, size, and recency, with key insights summarized so you don’t have to reverse-engineer the chart yourself.
